New Music Venue and Restaurant for West Loop
A new music venue and restaurant that pays homage to Jerry Garcia is set to open soon in Chicago’s West Loop. The establishment is expected to contribute to the neighborhood's already vibrant culinary and entertainment scene.
- The venue, named Garcia's Chicago, is a 300-capacity concert and restaurant space that officially opened on March 21, 2025. It is located at 1001 W Washington Boulevard in the West Loop. - The project is a venture from concert promoter Peter Shapiro of Dayglo Presents, known for The Capitol Theatre and Brooklyn Bowl, in partnership with the late musician's family. Jerry Garcia's daughter, Trixie Garcia, noted that her father had envisioned a similar club called 'Casa Garcia' where he could play intimate shows off the road. - The food and beverage program is managed by the Lowder-Tascarella Hospitality Group, recognized for their work with high-end establishments like The NoMad and The Modern. The menu concept is described as "Spain meets San Francisco," drawing from Garcia's Spanish roots and his Northern California upbringing. - Chicago native Ivy Carthen serves as the executive chef, creating a menu that reflects Garcia's love for American comfort food. One of the highlighted dishes is a take on Garcia's favorite sandwich, featuring thin-sliced prime rib. - The interior design features original artwork, unseen family photos, and a collection of vintage posters, records, and books that inspired Garcia. The venue is equipped with a state-of-the-art Yamaha DM7 console and Meyer Sound acoustics for high-quality audio, including capabilities for 4K live-streaming and multitrack recording of performances. - The initial performance calendar includes a diverse range of artists such as Grace Potter, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Grahame Lesh, son of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh.
