Durant Explodes for 40
Kevin Durant scored a season-high 40 points leading Houston's comeback 113-108 win over Orlando. Durant's late-game scoring run was pivotal as the Rockets overcame a fourth-quarter deficit. At 37, KD continues proving he's still got elite scoring ability when his team needs it most.
The comeback was even more dramatic than the final score suggests. Orlando led by as many as 19 points, and were up 76-57 with just over five minutes left in the third quarter before Houston unleashed a stunning 21-0 run in under four minutes to take the lead. While Durant was the star, rookie guard Reed Sheppard was the spark for the comeback. The second-year player scored 11 of his 20 points and hit three of his five 3-pointers during that pivotal 21-0 third-quarter run, completely changing the momentum of the game. This 40-point effort was not just a season-high for Durant; it also pushed him past 32,000 career points, a milestone only a handful of players in NBA history have reached. He poured in 26 of his 40 points in the second half to will the Rockets to victory. The victory marked a clean sweep of the season series for the Rockets over the Magic, with Houston also taking the first matchup 117-113 back in November. In that game, Durant led the way with 35 points. The win improves the Rockets' record to 37-21, solidifying their position as the third seed in the Western Conference standings. The loss drops the Magic to 31-27 on the season. Up next, the Rockets will look to extend their winning streak when they travel to face the Miami Heat, while the Magic will return home to host the Detroit Pistons.
