Portland middle school exposure

Oregon Health Authority listed Centennial Middle School in Portland as a measles exposure site for people present on April 1 and April 6–10 between 9:20 a.m. and 6 p.m. (KGW, the Portland Tribune, and KXL reported the exposure notices on April 14.) (kgw.com)

Oregon health officials say people at Centennial Middle School in Southeast Portland may have been exposed to measles on six days this month. (oregon.gov) The Oregon Health Authority listed the school at 17650 Southeast Brooklyn Street and said the exposure windows ran from 9:20 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 1 and April 6 through April 10. Multnomah County public health officials joined the notice. (oregon.gov) Later on April 14, the state added another possible exposure date at the same school: Friday, April 3, from 9:20 a.m. to 6 p.m. The update expanded the list after the first public notice went out. (oregon.gov) Officials told anyone who was at the school during those windows to talk with a health care provider about their risk and whether they are protected by vaccination records, age, or lab evidence of immunity. Oregon Public Broadcasting reported that hundreds of people may have been exposed at the campus. (oregon.gov) (opb.org) Measles spreads through the air and can linger for up to two hours after an infected person leaves, according to Oregon health officials. The state says a person with measles is contagious from about four days before symptoms start until about four days after the rash begins. (kgw.com) The school notice lands during a wider Oregon outbreak. The Oregon Health Authority declared an outbreak on February 19 after five confirmed cases, and the state had reported 13 cases by early April. (content.govdelivery.com) (oregoncapitalchronicle.com) State data posted in late March showed 11 Oregon cases at that point, with 10 in people who were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status and one in a person with one measles, mumps and rubella dose. Oregon Public Broadcasting reported the state had only one confirmed measles case in 2025. (oregon.gov) (opb.org) Health officials have been tracing exposures across the Portland area, including a Safeway on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard and a Legacy GoHealth urgent care clinic in Oregon City. Centennial Middle School is the latest site added to that growing list. (ktvz.com) (kgw.com) For families at the school, the immediate question is simple: whether anyone was on campus during those April dates and whether they are immune. For Oregon health officials, the job now is the same one they have been repeating for weeks — find exposures fast and keep the case count from climbing further. (oregon.gov) (opb.org)
