SiteGround Launches AI Tool to Build Custom Apps

Coderick AI enters the market as a "vibe coding" tool, a new approach where users describe their desired application in natural language, and the AI generates the code. The term, coined by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy, represents a shift from manual coding to guiding an AI assistant through conversational prompts. This method aims to make software development more accessible to non-coders and faster for experienced developers. The launch of Coderick AI is part of SiteGround's broader strategy to evolve from a web hosting provider into an all-in-one platform for online businesses. This move reflects a growing trend where hosting companies bundle development tools directly with their infrastructure, treating hosting as the starting point for creation rather than the final step. By integrating the building, deploying, and hosting of applications into a single workflow, SiteGround aims to reduce the complexity and friction often associated with launching a new project. A key differentiator for Coderick AI is its "production-ready" output, which includes built-in version control, user authentication, and automatic deployment. Unlike many AI builders that produce prototypes requiring further development, SiteGround's tool is designed to create applications capable of handling real-world traffic from the start. Every application built with Coderick AI is hosted on SiteGround's existing infrastructure, which includes enterprise-grade security. The introduction of Coderick AI places SiteGround in competition with established no-code and low-code platforms like Bubble and Softr. While Bubble offers deep, granular control for building complex applications, it has a steeper learning curve. Softr, on the other hand, is known for its user-friendly interface for creating visually appealing but simpler applications, often from existing data sources. Coderick AI's natural language approach and all-in-one infrastructure offer a different value proposition focused on speed and simplicity. In a live webinar, SiteGround demonstrated Coderick AI's capabilities by building several applications, including a staff scheduling app for a restaurant with a login, calendar, and shift management. They also created a website for a vet clinic with a booking system integrated with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, and Outlook. Another demonstration involved recreating an existing real estate website from a screenshot and a single-line prompt. SiteGround offers a free trial for Coderick AI, with paid plans that include more projects, storage, and monthly credits for interacting with the AI. While the tool is designed to be intuitive, SiteGround emphasizes that building complex projects is an iterative process of clear, step-by-step prompts. The platform does not currently allow for the export of the raw source code, as it is a fully managed, no-code solution.
