Skydio Military Drones Stolen
Four Skydio X10D military drone systems were stolen from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, highlighting the growing risks of advanced drone technology falling into unauthorized hands. Army Criminal Investigation identified two suspects and is offering a $5,000 reward for information. The Skydio X10D is used by military and government agencies for secure, autonomous operations.
The stolen Skydio X10D drones are valued at approximately $200,000 each, making the total value of the theft around $800,000. The drones were taken from a secure storage facility on the base sometime between March 8th and March 11th. The Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is working with local law enforcement agencies to recover the drones and apprehend the suspects. The CID has not released the names of the suspects but described them as individuals with prior knowledge of the base and drone storage procedures. Skydio has issued a software update that renders the stolen drones inoperable if connected to the internet. This update is designed to prevent the drones from being used for malicious purposes. The incident has prompted a review of security protocols at Fort Campbell and other military installations. The Army is considering implementing enhanced security measures, including increased surveillance and stricter access controls.
