ICC Criticized Over Team Treatment

The ICC is facing criticism from a former captain over unequal treatment of teams after the T20 World Cup. While England's team has already departed India following their elimination, both West Indies and South Africa remain stuck in the country due to unresolved travel and logistics issues. The situation has drawn sharp criticism over perceived inconsistent post-tournament arrangements.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan and current South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock have publicly condemned the ICC for what they describe as inequitable treatment. The criticism stems from the fact that England secured a charter flight home shortly after their semi-final exit, while West Indies and South Africa were left waiting in Kolkata. West Indies was eliminated on a Sunday, and South Africa on the following Wednesday, yet both teams remained in India while England, knocked out on Thursday, prepared to depart. This has led to accusations that the influence of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) at the ICC table led to preferential treatment. South African player Quinton de Kock took to Instagram to voice his frustration, stating, "we have heard nothing! Meanwhile, England are leaving before us somehow? @westindies and @proteasmencsa are just in the dark! Strange how different teams have more pull than others." West Indies coach Daren Sammy also expressed his team's desire to go home. The logistical challenges are reportedly due to the ICC arranging charter flights, which have been impacted by international airspace restrictions. Despite these issues, the critics argue that all teams should be treated the same regardless of their power and influence within the global cricketing body. The stranded West Indies and South African teams are now expected to travel together on a separate charter flight at a later date.
