The Aranjuez city council will begin work on May 18 on a new intermodal park-and-ride next to the town’s railway station, according to a municipal notice published on May 14. The project will be built in the Raso de la Estrella area, opposite the station, on land that has been used informally for parking. The council said the works are expected to last about two months. (elicebergdemadrid.com) The contract was awarded in April for 655,143.54 euros, including VAT. (aranjuez.es) ### Where exactly will the new parking lot be built? The site is in the Raso de la Estrella area, directly in front of Aranjuez railway station. The municipality said the project will turn a deteriorated area of former railway land into an intermodal parking facility linked to the station. (elicebergdemadrid.com) A February municipal project note said the area had been used “de forma informal e indiscriminada” as a parking zone and lacked drainage, signage and clear internal circulation. The approved project planned more than 400 spaces. ### Who is building it and how much will it cost? On April 22, Aranjuez said it had awarded the works contract to the joint venture UTE Lantania S.A.U.-DSV Empresa Constructora y Ferroviaria, S.L. (elicebergdemadrid.com) The total contract value was 655,143.54 euros, including VAT. The same award notice said the tender included a 30-day reduction in the execution period, a four-year extension of the guarantee period and additional improvements valued at 11,720.75 euros, including VAT. (aranjuez.es) ### Why was the project possible now? On October 30, 2025, Mayor Miguel Gómez Herrero said the council had signed a 20-year lease with ADIF for the land used as parking near the station. (aranjuez.es) The agreement gave the municipality use of 16,356 square meters for public purposes, with one reserved strip to remain unavailable until, provisionally, June 2027 to maintain rail access. (aranjuez.es) Miguel Gómez Herrero said at the time that the contract answered a long-standing demand from residents and rail users for adequate parking near the station. The municipality also said the project was financed through the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística en Destino with Next Generation EU funds. (aranjuez.es) ### What changes for drivers and rail passengers during construction? On May 18, the usual informal parking area near the station will be significantly reduced while construction is under way, according to the municipal notice carried by local outlet El Iceberg de Madrid. The same notice said pedestrian access would also be restricted in the affected works area. (aranjuez.es) The council recommended using public transport to reach the station during the works and set out three alternative parking areas. Those are an open area at Calle Reales Guardias Walonas 1, at the junction of San Antonio and Carretera de Toledo opposite the Royal Palace; provisional parking on the left lanes of Calle Jacinto Guerrero; and a stretch of Carretera de Toledo between San Antonio and the cemetery. (aranjuez.es) ### How does this fit into earlier planning for the station area? On February 12, the council said the project had been approved with an execution budget of 683,865.90 euros and had been drafted by Aquidos Arquitectes, Tècnics i Gestió SLP. The municipality described it as part of a wider effort to improve mobility, accessibility and urban integration around the station. (elicebergdemadrid.com) The February project note also linked the parking lot to other works in the area, including a pedestrian connection between the Royal Palace and the station and the installation of electric-vehicle charging points. The station is the terminus of Madrid commuter rail line C3, the municipality said. (elicebergdemadrid.com) ### What happens next? May 18 is the scheduled start date for the works, and the municipality has said construction should take about two months. The next visible milestone is the reordering of parking and pedestrian access around the station while the contractor, UTE Lantania S.A.U.-DSV Empresa Constructora y Ferroviaria, S.L., carries out the project.
