Prezi's foundation is its non-linear "zooming user interface" (ZUI), which allows presenters to move across a single, large canvas instead of advancing through sequential slides. This spatial approach is designed to show relationships between the big picture and the details, creating a more memorable visual narrative. Founded in Budapest in 2009 by Adam Somlai-Fischer, Peter Halacsy, and Peter Arvai, the company's core concept was inspired by Somlai-Fischer's earlier work with a zoomable interface for architectural presentations. This same tool can convert blocks of text into visual elements like flow charts or animated stories, reducing manual design work. This AI layer builds on a product suite that has expanded over time. Prezi Business was launched in 2016 to add business-focused tools like real-time data analytics, and Prezi Video arrived in 2019, allowing presenters to appear alongside their content in video meetings. As of 2025, the platform has attracted over 160 million users globally, who have collectively created approximately 400 million presentations.
