Freelance Platform GigRadar Buys Pouncer.ai
Global freelance ecosystem GigRadar has completed its third acquisition, buying U.S.-based Pouncer.ai. The deal signals ongoing consolidation in the digital labor platform market. For students tracking the space, it's a reminder that many startups in this vertical eventually become acquirers.
The global freelance platform market is projected to grow from around $7-8 billion in 2025 to over $20 billion by 2031, with some estimates suggesting a compound annual growth rate of over 17%. This growth is fueled by enterprises increasingly seeking flexible talent and freelancers capitalizing on remote work opportunities. North America currently represents the largest market share for freelance platforms. GigRadar's acquisition of Pouncer.ai's "Profile Optimizer" is its third strategic purchase since 2025, signaling a clear roll-up strategy focused on the Upwork ecosystem. The company previously acquired Ukrainian-founded startups Upsky, for CRM automation, and Top Rated Club, a freelance community. This latest deal is its first with a U.S.-based company. Pouncer.ai, a Dallas-based startup founded in 2023, developed AI-powered tools specifically for Upwork freelancers, including a Chrome extension for creating tailored cover letters and receiving real-time job alerts. The acquired "Profile Optimizer" technology is used by over 5,000 professionals to improve their visibility and positioning on the Upwork platform. Pouncer.ai is backed by ATX Venture Partners. The acquisition integrates Pouncer.ai's profile optimization directly into GigRadar's broader suite of services, which includes AI-powered job discovery, analytics, and proposal assistance. GigRadar, founded by Ukrainian entrepreneurs, reports its users have already secured over $45 million in contracts on Upwork, and the addition of Pouncer.ai's tech aims to enhance the conversion of platform visibility into revenue. The CEO of GigRadar is Vadym Ovcharenko, while Pouncer.ai was founded by Daniel Reiling and Sean Jackson.
