Man Fatally Shot by Deputies on Johns Island

- The incident began after deputies responded to a shots-fired call around 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the 2900 block of Edenboro Road. Deputies did not find the suspect initially but received another call from the same person shortly before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, stating the man had returned. - Deputies spotted the suspect's vehicle at the intersection of Maybank Highway and River Road and attempted a traffic stop, which resulted in a pursuit. - The chase ended at the intersection of Edenboro Road and Caroline Lane, where the male suspect fled on foot. - During the foot pursuit, the suspect fired at deputies, striking one in the chest; the deputy's body armor stopped the bullet. - Deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.
