Hyderabad's Tech Hub Status Continues to Grow
Hyderabad's position as a global tech hub is being reinforced by several new initiatives and investments. Plans are underway for a new IT City at Tellapur, while Google is establishing a permanent office in the city. Nearby, the Andhra Pradesh government has boosted land allotment to 600 acres for a Google AI data center, and a new Hyderabad–Jakarta Tech Skills Development Corridor is being mooted to foster cross-border talent.
- Telangana's IT/ITeS exports grew by 11.3% to reach ₹2.7 lakh crore (approximately $32.2 billion) in the 2023-24 fiscal year, a rate over three times faster than the national average. The sector also added a net of around 40,000 professionals, bringing the total IT employment in the state to nearly 9.5 lakh. - Google's upcoming 3 million square foot campus in the Financial District is set to be its largest owned-and-operated campus building outside of its US headquarters. The facility, designed with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind, is expected to be ready by 2026 and will accommodate a workforce of 18,000. - The Andhra Pradesh government's increased land allotment for Google's AI data centers now exceeds 600 acres across Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts. This project, with a value of nearly ₹90,000 crore, is being executed in partnership with Adani Infra (India) Ltd. - The proposed Hyderabad-Jakarta corridor aims to create a structured exchange of tech talent and expertise in the startup ecosystem. As part of this, Indonesia has sought technical support from Telangana for its National Digital Roadmap and help in strengthening its own startup networks. - The state government is actively promoting IT expansion into Tier-II cities like Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nizamabad, and Mahbubnagar by establishing IT towers and incubation centers to decentralize growth. - Recent major investments in Telangana's digital infrastructure include a ₹70,000 crore commitment from Infrakey Data Centre Parks and a ₹10,500 crore AI data centre cluster by NTT DATA Group. These are part of over ₹5.75 lakh crore in total investment proposals secured by the state. - The upcoming Tellapur integrated township, a joint project between Tellapur Techno-City Project Limited and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will span 100 acres near the IT corridor and Outer Ring Road. - According to the Savills Growth Hubs Index 2024, Hyderabad ranks as the fourth fastest-developing city globally, driven by its services sector, digital infrastructure, and success in attracting technology and real estate investment.
