Blues Beat Sharks 3-2 in OT

St. Louis Blues edged San Jose Sharks 3-2 in overtime, with Robert Thomas scoring twice including the game-winner. The victory keeps the Blues firmly in the playoff race while the Sharks continue struggling for wins late in the season.

The victory marked the Blues' third consecutive win, a streak accomplished even after trading away captain Brayden Schenn and defenseman Justin Faulk just hours before the trade deadline. St. Louis played the game with only five healthy defensemen as a result of the recent trades. Robert Thomas has been a key offensive force for St. Louis since returning from injury, with his two goals against the Sharks bringing his total to four in the last three games. The overtime winner was scored just 54 seconds into the extra period, with Philip Broberg getting the primary assist. Dylan Holloway also had a significant impact for the Blues, recording three assists in the game. For the Sharks, the loss came despite goals from Macklin Celebrini and Kiefer Sherwood. Celebrini's second-period goal was his 31st of the season, while Sherwood's third-period tally tied the game. Sherwood has had an eventful week, also signing a five-year, $28.75 million contract extension. Jordan Binnington made 23 saves to secure the win for the Blues. At the other end of the ice, Alex Nedeljkovic, who had signed a two-year, $6 million extension earlier in the day, made 11 saves for the Sharks. The Blues' other goal scorer was Jimmy Snuggerud, who also added an assist.
