Bar Part Time Owners to Open New SF Nightclub 'Downtime'
The owners of the popular San Francisco wine bar, Bar Part Time, are launching a new nightclub in the Mission District called Downtime. The new venue will reportedly feature a more dance-focused atmosphere and will include a food program from a well-regarded Bay Area restaurant. The project aims to expand on the original bar's social scene with a greater emphasis on nightlife.
- The new venue, Downtime, is a partnership between Bar Part Time's co-owners—Dan Small, Jeremy Castillo, and Justin Dolezal—and veteran bartender Eric Ochoa, a partner at the nearby cocktail bar Dalva. - The food program will be run by the team from Rose Pizzeria, a Berkeley restaurant that is nationally acclaimed and ranked #13 on the Chronicle's Top 100 Restaurants list; however, the menu at Downtime will not feature pizza. - Downtime is located at 2243 Mission St., taking over the 6,000-square-foot space that was the longtime home of the iconic Senegalese restaurant and club, Bissap Baobab. - The project represents a significant expansion in size, with Downtime's 6,000 square feet dwarfing Bar Part Time's roughly 1,500-square-foot location. - Bar Part Time originated as a popular pop-up during the pandemic, quickly gaining a following for its combination of natural wine, DJ sets, and sought-after merchandise before opening a permanent location in 2021. - The beverage program will expand beyond Bar Part Time's "zero-zero" natural wine focus to include a full cocktail menu designed by Eric Ochoa, who previously worked at acclaimed bars like ABV and Bar Agricole. - The new club plans to feature a custom sound system and a larger dance floor, signaling a clear focus on music and a nightlife atmosphere, with a target opening of late fall. - The owners of Bar Part Time—Jeremy Castillo (a DJ), Dan Small (a designer), and Justin Dolezal—leveraged their respective skills to build the original bar into a lifestyle brand known for its party vibe, which they now aim to scale with Downtime.
