SGA Ties Wilt's 20-Point Streak

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tied Wilt Chamberlain's record by scoring at least 20 points in 126 consecutive NBA games. The Thunder star joins Chamberlain as the only players in league history to achieve this streak, cementing his place among elite scorers as the reigning MVP.

Wilt Chamberlain's monumental record was set across two seasons and two cities, starting with the Philadelphia Warriors in 1961 and ending with the San Francisco Warriors in 1963. During his incredible 126-game stretch, Chamberlain averaged a staggering 49.2 points per game. This included his legendary 100-point game in 1962. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's streak of scoring 20 or more points began on October 30, 2024. In the record-tying game against the Denver Nuggets, he not only scored 35 points but also hit the game-winning three-pointer with 2.7 seconds left. He also recorded a career-high 15 assists with zero turnovers in that victory. The consistency of Gilgeous-Alexander has drawn praise from across the league. Following the achievement, his coach, Mark Daigneault, highlighted his "tremendous poise, confidence." Opposing Denver Nuggets coach David Adelman remarked, "The name that he is up there with is Wilt... it just says a lot about Shai's career, the consistency that he's shown over the years." Even legends of the game have taken note of SGA's elite performance. LeBron James commented on his efficiency, stating he's "shooting at a high clip." Hall of Famer Steve Nash also praised his improvement and low turnover rate, calling him "incredible in isolation." This record is just one of many staggering statistics from Wilt Chamberlain's career, who still holds records for most consecutive 30-point, 40-point, and 50-point games. Gilgeous-Alexander himself described Chamberlain as "almost like a mythical creature," acknowledging the historic nature of the accomplishment. The defending champion Thunder currently have the best record in the NBA at 51-15, with Gilgeous-Alexander's scoring being a major factor in their success. During his streak, SGA has recorded five games with 50 or more points, including a career-high 55 against the Indiana Pacers. Gilgeous-Alexander will have the opportunity to break Chamberlain's record at home on Thursday against the Boston Celtics.
