Tenafly Basketball Advances in Playoffs

The No. 15-ranked Tenafly boys basketball team edged past Wayne Valley in the N1G3 quarterfinals. The victory secures their spot to advance further in the state competition.

The hard-fought 43-39 victory for Tenafly was a defensive battle, marking the Tigers' lowest-scoring game of the season. Despite the low point total, the win extended their current streak to two games and improved their impressive season record to 23-2. This victory was also a measure of revenge, as Tenafly had lost to Wayne Valley in their previous matchup in February 2024. For Wayne Valley, the loss snapped a seven-game winning streak on the road and concluded their season with a 21-6 record. Their effort was spearheaded by a standout performance from Zachary Derstine, who recorded a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Teammate Tyler Veale also contributed 10 points to the Indians' effort. The game was part of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament quarterfinals, a bracket in the 2026 NJSIAA Boys Basketball State Championships. The win allows No. 15 Tenafly to move on to the semifinal round. Next up, Tenafly will host Montville in the semifinals on Wednesday, March 4th, at 7:00 p.m. at Tenafly High School.
