Largest U.S. Asian Supermarket to Open in Fremont

A popular Asian supermarket chain is set to open its largest U.S. location in Fremont, California. The new store will cater to the city's large and growing Asian American population, significantly expanding the area's grocery options.

The new supermarket will be an H Mart, a popular Korean-American grocery store chain. This location is set to be the company's largest in the U.S. at 100,000 square feet and represents the largest investment in the company's history. The two-story structure will be located in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, taking over a building vacated by Kohl's in April 2025. Construction is slated to begin in late 2026, though a specific opening date has not yet been announced. This won't be just a grocery store; plans include a food hall with various eateries, dine-in restaurants, a bar, and entertainment offerings. This new concept marks a first for the H Mart brand, which was founded in Queens, New York, in 1982 and now has over 100 U.S. locations. The choice of Fremont aligns with the city's demographics, as over 63% of the population identifies as Asian. Fremont is already home to other Asian supermarkets, including 99 Ranch Market and Mega Mart. This H Mart is part of a larger trend of destination-driven retail at Pacific Commons. The shopping center also recently welcomed the largest Miniso lifestyle brand store in the Bay Area.
