Rev1 Ventures Opens Columbus Innovation Hub
Rev1 Ventures has launched a new innovation hub in downtown Columbus, Ohio, to support high-growth technology startups. The center, located at The Peninsula, is described as the largest city-supported innovation hub in the U.S. focused on software and advanced technology. The initiative aims to solidify Columbus's reputation as a national hub for startup activity.
- The new hub is part of a broader development called The Peninsula, a 90-acre mixed-use district on the Scioto River. Upon completion, The Peninsula will feature up to 1,800 residential units, 2 million square feet of office space, and 400 hotel rooms. - This initiative, nicknamed "Software Alley," involves a partnership between Rev1 Ventures, The Ohio State University, and the City of Columbus, which has made a 10-year financial commitment to the project. - Rev1 Ventures, which has now moved its headquarters to the new hub, has been the most active seed investor in the Great Lakes Region for several years and manages over $150 million in capital. - The Columbus startup ecosystem currently includes 391 startups and one "unicorn" (a startup valued at over $1 billion). The city ranks 32nd in the United States for the strength of its startup ecosystem. - This downtown software-focused hub is complemented by a second planned location in Ohio State's Carmenton innovation district, which will provide lab space for life sciences and biotech startups. - The Peninsula development is also slated to include a new grocery store, which aims to address the area's status as a food desert and support the city's goal of having 40,000 people living downtown by 2040. - Rev1's portfolio companies have included notable exits such as the acquisitions of Matterport, Celenex, and Myonexus. - The new hub will host programs like the 'Customer to Capital Accelerator' to support early-stage companies.
