Slim's Steakhouse to Open at Bal Harbour Shops

Slim's Steakhouse, a new concept by restaurateur Stephen Starr, is slated to open in March 2026. The new restaurant will be located at the Bal Harbour Shops in the greater Miami area. It is one of several new dining establishments planned for South Florida.

- The parent company, STARR Restaurants, is one of the largest independent, multi-concept restaurant operators in the United States, with a portfolio of more than 40 restaurants in cities including Philadelphia, New York, Washington D.C., and Paris. - Slim's will occupy the 5,000-square-foot ground-floor space that formerly housed Makoto, another Starr restaurant. Makoto relocated to a larger, new location on the third floor of Bal Harbour Shops in 2022. - The restaurant's concept is inspired by the "golden age of cinema," and the interior will feature plush leather banquettes and vintage murals. - This opening is part of a larger $550 million expansion of Bal Harbour Shops, which will add nearly 250,000 square feet of retail and dining space. - As part of the expansion, Bal Harbour Shops also plans to add a 70-room hotel and 600 residential units, significantly increasing the on-site population and logistical demands. - Other new restaurants are also planned for the shopping center, including the reopening of the iconic Asian-fusion restaurant China Grill. - The project is part of a broader South Florida expansion for STARR, which was also recently selected to curate the entire culinary program for the new ultra-luxury Six Fisher Island development, including a waterfront restaurant and in-residence dining.
