Resend launches Automations builder

Resend introduced 'Automations,' a workflow builder that supports drag-and-drop, natural-language prompts and code hooks, and integrates with AI tools like Claude and Cursor (x.com). The product is framed as a multi-modal way to compose workflows using UI, language or developer tooling in the same builder (x.com).

Resend has launched Automations, a workflow builder for app-triggered email sequences that went live on April 13 as part of the company’s April launch week. (resend.com 1) (resend.com 2) The product lets teams start an automation with a custom event from their app, then add delays, branching conditions, waits for later events, and email sends inside one flow. Resend’s examples include welcome series, trial-expiration reminders, re-engagement campaigns, payment recovery, and abandoned-cart messages. (resend.com 1) (resend.com 2) Resend said users can build those flows in a drag-and-drop editor or describe them in plain language for artificial intelligence to assemble, then monitor each execution through a runs panel that shows what is running, completed, failed, or cancelled. (resend.com 1) (resend.com 2) Email automation is the layer that decides when a message should go out after something happens in an app, like a signup, a purchase, or a trial ending. Resend had already built sending tools, templates, and marketing email features; Automations moves the product further from a single-send email application programming interface toward orchestration. (resend.com) (resend.com) That expansion has been building for more than two years. Resend said it was incorporated in January 2023, launched publicly in June 2023, added marketing emails in January 2024, and had reached 100,000 verified users by April 2024. (resend.com) The new builder also keeps Resend tied to developer workflows instead of shifting fully to a no-code audience. The company said Automations can be created and inspected through the dashboard, the application programming interface, software development kits, command-line interface, and its Model Context Protocol server. (resend.com) That developer angle matches the tools Resend name-checked in its launch materials. Claude Code documents describe hooks as user-defined shell commands that run automatically during the coding assistant’s lifecycle, and Cursor documents list built-in hooks for similar workflow control. (code.claude.com) (cursor.com) In practice, that means a team can define an event like `user.created`, send it from an app with a payload such as a customer’s plan tier, and let Resend decide which template to send, how long to wait, and whether to branch the sequence. Resend’s documentation says automations can trigger from either a contact identifier or an email address. (resend.com) (resend.com) The launch closes a gap that Resend itself had flagged in earlier roadmap language about going “deeper into the tech stack.” With Automations now live, the company is selling not just email delivery, but the logic that determines what happens after the first event fires.
