F1 Taps C15 Studio for Content
Formula 1 has renewed its partnership with C15 Studio to produce content for its channels, including live broadcasts for the F1 Academy. The deal is an example of a major brand outsourcing its digital media transformation and content production to a specialized agency.
The partnership is an extension of the Formula 1 Channel, a free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel in the US that C15 Studio launched for F1 in 2024. This channel already reaches over one million viewers monthly and serves as a key entry point for a US fanbase that has grown to 52 million. The channel is available on major platforms like Pluto TV, Amazon Freevee, and Samsung TV Plus. Under the renewed multi-year deal, C15 Studio will begin broadcasting the 2026 F1 Academy season live. This includes live coverage of all seven rounds, from practice and qualifying to the races themselves, starting in Shanghai. The F1 Academy, an all-female driver series launched in 2023, is a central part of F1's strategy to develop new talent. This collaboration exemplifies a larger trend in sports media where major brands outsource content production to specialized agencies. C15 Studio, founded by media veterans Joe Nilsson and Amory Schwartz, focuses specifically on powering these types of FAST channels for sports leagues, with other partners including MotoGP and the Professional Squash Association. This model allows leagues to tap into new audiences without building out the entire infrastructure themselves. For freelancers, these agency partnerships highlight the growing opportunity in subcontracting. Studios like C15 often rely on a network of specialized talent for design, video editing, and production. To connect with such agencies, freelancers should focus on building a strong portfolio, networking within the industry, and clearly defining their value proposition as a specialist in areas like motion graphics or live event production. The visual identity for the F1 Academy, which will be a core part of C15's live content, signals a shift in design aesthetics. The 2026 brand refresh uses a bold electric purple, hot pink, and a custom pixel-inspired headline font, moving away from traditional corporate polish to connect with a younger, digital-native audience. This reflects a broader trend of using maximalism and gaming-inspired visuals to capture attention on social media. In the production world, AI tools are becoming creative collaborators for generating visual concepts and streamlining workflows. A studio might use Midjourney to brainstorm mood boards for a new show open or leverage Adobe Firefly's Generative Fill within Photoshop to quickly adapt graphics for different formats. For freelancers, mastering these tools is becoming crucial for delivering high-quality work efficiently.
