Houston Gets Ranch-Inspired Restaurant

"Long Weekend," a ranch-inspired neighborhood restaurant, just opened to the public in Houston's Heights/River Oaks/Montrose area. The venue brings casual ranch vibes to the city with a menu and atmosphere that bridges countryside comfort with urban dining.

The restaurant, which officially opened on March 4, 2026, is the creation of husband-and-wife team Paige and Andrew Alvis. The concept is deeply personal, inspired by Andrew's childhood weekends spent on his family's ranch. The couple, parents to three young boys, aimed to create a space where adults can enjoy a quality meal while children have room to play. Long Weekend occupies the sizable location at 2044 E. TC Jester, formerly home to King's Bierhaus and Egghaus. The venue is expansive, featuring 8,000 square feet of indoor space and a massive 20,000-square-foot outdoor area. This outdoor space includes a state-of-the-art playground, a fish-filled stream, fire pits, and a stage for live music. At the helm of the kitchen is Executive Chef German Mosquera, previously of Verdine and Café Brasil. The menu centers around a custom-built wood-fired grill with a rotisserie, open hearth, and vault smoker. Signature dishes include an Ax Breaker Elk Burger, chicken-fried wagyu steak, and a Wagyu Tomahawk Steak. Beyond the main dining room, the venue includes a separate daytime café that serves breakfast and lunch items like tacos and pancakes. The café also features a "Creative Canyon," a designated arts-and-crafts area for children.
