Anthropic Reaches $380B Valuation

AI safety and research company Anthropic has reached a $380 billion valuation following a new $30 billion funding round. The raise cements its position as one of the world's most valuable private companies. This influx of capital highlights the accelerating concentration of investment among a few frontier AI developers.

- The company was founded in 2021 by a group of former senior members of OpenAI, including siblings Dario Amodei (CEO) and Daniela Amodei (President), who left over concerns about the direction of AI development. - A core tenet of Anthropic's research is "Constitutional AI," a method they developed to train models to be helpful and harmless by adhering to a set of principles, rather than relying solely on human feedback. - The new $30 billion Series G funding round was led by Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC and hedge fund Coatue Management, with participation from investors including D. E. Shaw Ventures, Dragoneer, and Founders Fund. - This new valuation represents a significant leap from its previous funding round in September 2025, which valued the company at $183 billion. - Anthropic’s flagship product is its family of "Claude" language models, which compete directly with OpenAI's ChatGPT and are available to businesses through an API and Amazon's Bedrock cloud platform. - The company reports an annualized revenue run-rate of $14 billion, noting that this figure has grown more than tenfold in each of the last three years. - Prior to this round, Anthropic had already secured substantial backing from major tech companies, including a total of $8 billion from Amazon and at least $2 billion from Google. - For comparison, rival OpenAI is reportedly negotiating a funding round that would value it at approximately $830 billion.
