(thelocal.it) - Those festivals, plus Giro d'Italia promotions tied to sustainability partner VAIA, are expected to boost tourist traffic and local programming next month. Milan Design Week is in full swing this week, with the trade fair at Fiera Milano Rho and more than 1,000 city events spreading across Milan through Sunday, April 26. (salonemilano.it) (fuorisalone.it) The 64th edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano runs from April 21 to April 26 at Fiera Milano Rho, where organizers say more than 1,900 exhibitors are showing across 169,000 square metres of sold-out exhibition space. (salonemilano.it) This year’s fair also brings back EuroCucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition, with 106 brands from 17 countries in the kitchen section and 163 brands from 14 countries in the bathroom section, alongside SaloneSatellite’s 700 designers under 35 and 23 schools and universities. (salonemilano.it) Outside the fairgrounds, Fuorisalone lists 1,095 events from April 20 to April 26, turning neighborhoods including Brera, Corso Como and Castello Sforzesco into a weeklong circuit of installations, talks and brand showcases. (fuorisalone.it) That split format is what makes this week bigger than a single trade show: Salone concentrates buyers, brands and industry launches at Rho, while Fuorisalone pushes design traffic into streets, courtyards, museums and retail spaces across the city. (salonemilano.it) (fuorisalone.it) The calendar does not slow down after Milan. The Local’s Italy edition this week highlighted 12 major events coming in May, including Rome’s May 1 Concertone, which it described as Europe’s biggest free concert, and the Cantine Aperte winery weekends later in the month. (thelocal.it) Rome’s English-language events listings are already pointing to that next wave: Wanted in Rome published a May guide on April 22 and separately listed the Primo Maggio concert, Taste of Roma and Santa Cecilia performances among the capital’s headline events next month. (wantedinrome.com) The Giro d’Italia is adding its own programming before the race begins. Giro organizer RCS Sport and sustainability partner VAIA said on April 23 that Ride Green 2026 will include three public reforestation days in Darzo on April 18, Canazei on April 23 and Claut on April 24, tied to stages 17, 19 and 20 of this year’s route. (giroditalia.it) VAIA’s project page says the Giro partnership will fund three regeneration sites across Veneto, Trentino and Friuli, with 3,000 trees to be planted and local communities invited to join. (giroditalia.it 1) (giroditalia.it 2) So the live picture in Italy right now is a handoff: Milan is drawing design crowds through April 26, and the country’s next tourism push is already lining up around May concerts, food-and-wine weekends and Giro-linked events.
