Timekettle Unveils AI Interpreter Earbuds at MWC
Making its debut at MWC 2026, tech firm Timekettle is highlighting its new W4 AI Interpreter earbuds. The device promises highly responsive, real-time translation, showcasing the growing trend of embedding advanced AI capabilities into personal consumer electronics.
Founded in 2016, Timekettle was inspired by the Babel fish in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," aiming to create technology for seamless conversations across different languages. The company's first product, the WT2 Plus, was a record-breaking Kickstarter project that introduced the concept of simultaneous interpretation earbuds. A key technology in the W4 earbuds is a bone-voiceprint sensor, which captures the user's voice vibrations directly through their skull. This allows the device to isolate the speaker's voice and ignore ambient noise, claiming high accuracy even in loud environments like subways or trade shows. The W4 system, called Babel OS 2.0, uses AI Large Language Models (LLMs) to power its translations. This allows the software to understand context, differentiate between words that sound alike, and self-correct translation errors, which can reduce the need for clarification in conversations by up to 50%. Timekettle's earbuds support online translation for 43 languages and 96 different accents, covering an estimated 95% of the world's population. The company claims a translation speed of just 0.2 seconds and an accuracy rate of up to 98%. The broader market for AI translator devices is expanding rapidly, with projections to reach $3.5 billion by 2033. Timekettle competes with major tech players like Google, Samsung, and Apple, as well as specialized companies such as Vasco Electronics and Anfier. Unlike handheld translators or general-purpose earbuds with added translation functions, Timekettle's focus is on creating a hands-free, natural, two-way conversational experience without awkward pauses. The company also offers a W4 Pro model specifically designed for business use, adding features for translating phone calls and remote meetings.
