Diamond-Cooled NVIDIA GPU Servers Deployed in India

Akash Systems has delivered the world's first NVIDIA GPU servers cooled with synthetic diamond to NxtGen AI in India. The company's 'Akash Diamond Cooling' technology is an additive solution that works with existing air and liquid cooling systems. The new method reportedly increases GPU compute performance by approximately 15% by preventing thermal throttling, especially in high-temperature data centers.

- Synthetic diamond is the world's most thermally conductive material, transferring heat five times more effectively than copper. Akash Systems' engineers have developed a method to bond these diamonds to semiconductor chips, which dramatically accelerates heat extraction. - The "Diamond Cooled" servers have been shown to lower GPU hotspot temperatures by 10°-20°C, even in systems that already utilize liquid cooling. This reduction in heat allows for a 50% decrease in GPU fan speed, leading to a 90% reduction in the energy consumed by the fans. - This deployment is part of a $27 million contract for Akash Systems to supply its specialized servers to NxtGen's data centers across India. The goal is to reduce the cost of AI computing services by over 50% from current market rates. - NxtGen, headquartered in Bengaluru, is a significant provider of sovereign cloud services in India, meaning it offers cloud infrastructure and services that are under the jurisdiction of and protected by Indian law. A.S. Rajgopal is the CEO and Managing Director of NxtGen. - Akash Systems was co-founded by CEO Felix Ejeckam and Ty Mitchell. The company has received backing from prominent investors such as Khosla Ventures and Peter Thiel. - Prior to its application in data centers, Akash Systems pioneered the use of its diamond cooling technology for cooling satellites in the vacuum of space. - The improved thermal management allows for up to 25% overclocking capabilities and is expected to double the operational lifetime of the servers. - This partnership comes after the U.S. Department of Commerce approved up to $68 million in funding for Akash Systems under the CHIPS and Science Act.
