Google's Nano Banana 2 for Visual AI
Google introduced the Nano Banana 2 model, a context-aware image AI capable of visual synthesis and real-time data integration across Gemini, Search, and developer platforms. It's designed for applications needing speed and accuracy, like sports analytics, gaming graphics, and automotive recognition. The tool integrates with Gemini to synthesize data across apps, letting students build projects that automatically extract and process image data from various sources.
Google's Nano Banana 2, also known as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, launched in late February 2026, combines the speed of Gemini Flash with the quality previously exclusive to the Pro tier. This allows for faster editing and iteration across Google products like Gemini and Search. It builds upon the original Nano Banana from August 2025 and Nano Banana Pro from November 2025. Nano Banana 2 integrates real-time information and images from web search using Gemini's knowledge base. This enables more accurate rendering of specific subjects and helps in creating infographics and data visualizations. The model also offers enhanced creative control with subject consistency, maintaining the resemblance of up to five characters and the fidelity of up to 14 objects. The new model is rolling out across Google platforms, becoming the default image generation model in the Gemini app for Fast, Thinking, and Pro modes. It's also available in Google Search's AI Mode and Lens, as well as through AI Studio and the Gemini API for developers. Nano Banana 2 supports multiple aspect ratios and resolutions, with improved text rendering and localization for marketing mockups or greeting cards.
