Singapore gets residential robotaxis

WeRide and Grab launched Singapore’s first residential robotaxi service with initial rides free as the partners collect data and train staff for remote monitoring ahead of commercialization. The program is a practical testbed for scaling AV services in dense urban neighborhoods. (investing.com)

WeRide and Grab officially opened the Ai.R public autonomous-ride service in Punggol on April 1, 2026. (weride.ai) The initial deployment includes 11 robotaxis comprising WeRide’s five-seat GXR and eight-seat Robobus models operating along two Land Transport Authority–approved routes with multiple stops. (evmagz.com) During community trials that began in January 2026, the Ai.R fleet accumulated more than 30,000 km of autonomous mileage and served over 1,000 early riders. (grab.com) WeRide’s vehicles for the program have cleared Singapore’s Milestone 1 (M1) assessment, and the LTA formally appointed Grab as the operator for the designated Punggol routes. (grab.com) Members of the public can reserve rides through the service website rideair.ai, with bookings available on weekdays between 09:30 and 17:30 for the approved routes. (grab.com) Both companies say they expect to move to commercial paid operations in mid‑2026, with that timeline tied to passenger feedback and further operational approvals. (cnevpost.com)
