All-Black Punk Band Hits Billboard #1

The Paradox, an all-Black punk band, celebrated their first #1 Billboard Rock chart hit, earning endorsements from Kid Cudi, SZA, and LeBron James. The achievement marks a significant milestone for representation in punk rock, a genre historically dominated by white artists.

- The band's #1 hit, "Get the Message," topped Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart on January 24, 2026, making them the first all-Black band to achieve this milestone. The song also entered the top 10 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart. - The Atlanta-based quartet consists of Eric Dangerfield on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Christopher “Xelan” Bernard on lead guitar, Donald Bryant on bass, and Percy “PC3” Crews on drums. - Their rapid rise to fame was fueled by a viral TikTok video of them performing their song "Do Me Like That" in a backyard, which amassed nearly 10 million views. - Before their chart-topping success, the band had already secured opening slots for major acts like Green Day and received a direct message from Jack White asking them to open for him in Nashville. - Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker collaborated with the band on their track "Bender" and also contributed to its production. - While The Paradox's achievement is a significant moment for representation, Black artists have been integral to punk rock for decades, with pioneering bands like the proto-punk group Death in the early 1970s, and Bad Brains and Pure Hell in the later '70s and '80s. - The band released their debut EP titled "NSFW" in September 2025. - Looking ahead, The Paradox is scheduled to embark on a European and UK tour in early 2026 as a supporting act for All Time Low. They are also slated to perform at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, in May 2026.
