NYSE goes tokenized

The NYSE has tapped Securitize as its first digital transfer agent to enable tokenized stocks and ETFs—promising T+0 settlement, 24/7 trading and the use of tokenized securities as DeFi collateral. The move opens faster settlement and new liquidity venues but also raises concerns about fragmentation of liquidity and execution risk. (x.com) (x.com)

The NYSE and Securitize signed a memorandum of understanding on March 24, 2026 that names Securitize as the first digital transfer agent eligible to mint blockchain-native securities for corporate and ETF issuers on the NYSE‑affiliated Digital Trading Platform. (businesswire.com) The MoU frames the engagement as a design partnership to develop standards for digital transfer agents and tokenization agents, and to define regulatory, operational and technology requirements for institutional-grade tokenized securities infrastructure. (ir.theice.com) Securitize operates subsidiaries that are SEC‑registered transfer agents and a registered broker‑dealer and reports managing more than $4 billion in tokenized assets as of late 2025, positions regulators and issuers will now weigh in as the firm becomes a named platform partner. (sec.gov) The announcement arrives after the SEC cleared Nasdaq’s tokenized‑securities rule change on March 18, 2026, establishing a competing pilot framework tied to a DTC pilot and accelerating a live regulated pathway for tokenized equity trading. (sec.gov) Securitize has already publicly outlined plans to support fully regulated on‑chain trading and settlement for real public stocks earlier in 2026, and the company has previously supported issuer tokenizations in live settings. (coindesk.com) (marketsmedia.com) Both ICE (the NYSE parent) and Securitize say the Digital Trading Platform work will proceed subject to further regulatory approvals and broker‑dealer integration work, with the MoU setting technical and governance guardrails rather than a public launch date.
