Axel Springer Buys Bisnow

German media giant Axel Springer has acquired Bisnow, a leading B2B media and events company focused on commercial real estate. The deal marks a significant consolidation in the business media space, with investment bank BrightTower advising on the sale.

This acquisition folds a major player in commercial real estate media into Axel Springer's growing U.S. portfolio, which already includes prominent brands like POLITICO, Business Insider, and Morning Brew. The German media giant has been actively expanding its English-language offerings and digital footprint. Bisnow, founded in 2005 by Mark Bisnow, established itself by producing industry-specific e-newsletters and large-scale events for commercial real estate professionals. Prior to this deal, the company was acquired by private equity firm Wicks Group in 2016 for an estimated $50 million. The company generates revenue through a combination of ticket sales, event sponsorships, and digital advertising. As of early 2014, Bisnow was organizing 250 events annually, attracting around 70,000 attendees. More recent figures show the company hosts over 340 events a year. Axel Springer's CEO Mathias Döpfner has outlined a strategy focused on digital journalism, moving away from a model based on maximizing clicks and advertising. The company is prioritizing direct audience engagement and leveraging artificial intelligence in its media operations. This acquisition aligns with their goal of becoming a leading digital publisher.
