Xiaomi Teases Vision GT Hypercar

Electronics giant Xiaomi is teasing its first Vision GT electric racer ahead of MWC 2026, marking China's first entry in the Vision GT category. The concept EV hypercar features a futuristic design and positions Xiaomi as a potential disruptor in the global hypercar market. Early images suggest a striking, aerodynamic design that combines Xiaomi's tech expertise with high-performance automotive engineering.

The Vision Gran Turismo project, initiated in 2013 to celebrate the game's 15th anniversary, invites automakers to design their ideal Grand Tourer for the virtual world. Xiaomi joins an exclusive club of legacy manufacturers like Ferrari, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz who have previously created concept cars for the Gran Turismo racing game series. Led by Head of Design Li Tianyuan, a former BMW designer, the car's "sculpted by the wind" philosophy aims for aerodynamic performance without extra components. The design features a teardrop-shaped cockpit, scissor doors, a large carbon fiber rear wing, and an active wake control system to reduce drag. Underpinning the concept is Xiaomi's proprietary 900V Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform, the same architecture developed with a significant portion of its $1.4 billion EV R&D budget. The vehicle's carbon-ceramic brakes are reportedly designed to handle a powertrain in the 1,900 horsepower range, although official figures have not been confirmed. PlayStation 5 owners will be able to drive the car digitally in the game *Gran Turismo 7*. For those at the MWC 2026 event, Xiaomi also created a dedicated physical driving simulator to offer an interactive experience. This virtual concept serves as a calling card for Xiaomi's real-world automotive ambitions. The company's first vehicle, the SU7 sedan, has already outsold the Tesla Model 3 in China, and the company is targeting 550,000 vehicle deliveries for 2026. The company's commitment to the auto sector is underscored by CEO Lei Jun's decision to focus more of his personal efforts on the car business. In late 2025, Lei Jun also took direct leadership of a new top-tier "Architecture Department" to define the company's next-generation EV technology.
