New mainline Pokémon games in 2026

IGN reports that 2026, the 30th anniversary of Pokémon, will bring new mainline titles to both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

The report suggests these will be the first mainline Pokémon games developed specifically for the Switch 2. This could mean a significant leap in graphics and performance compared to previous Switch Pokémon titles. The Pokémon Company has historically released new generations of Pokémon games to coincide with major anniversaries. *Pokémon X and Y* were released in 2013 for the 3DS, the same year as the franchise's 20th anniversary. Fans are speculating about what new Pokémon types or gameplay mechanics might be introduced in these games. Some hope for a return to more challenging gameplay, while others want to see deeper integration of online features.
