Major League Volleyball Names First Commissioner
Major League Volleyball has appointed Jaime Weston as its first-ever Commissioner. The move comes as the professional women's volleyball league enters its third season, signaling a new era of growth for the sport in the U.S.
Jaime Weston brings a wealth of experience from the highest levels of sports and entertainment, having spent over 15 years as a marketing executive at the NFL. She also held leadership roles at Universal Music Group and, most recently, served as the Chief Commercial Officer for USA Volleyball, guiding its brand and commercial strategy ahead of the LA 2028 Olympics. Major League Volleyball is the result of a recent merger between two emerging professional leagues: the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) and a startup also named Major League Volleyball. The PVF played two seasons before the merger, which consolidated the rapidly growing professional volleyball landscape in the U.S. and is now considered the third season for the unified league. The league currently features eight teams, including the Atlanta Vibe, Omaha Supernovas, and the newly added Dallas Pulse. This new iteration of the league was born partly from a dispute that saw the popular Omaha Supernovas plan to leave the PVF for a new league, which ultimately led to a peace deal and the unified MLV. MLV is positioning itself as a major league, offering player salaries ranging from $60,000 to $175,000, along with revenue sharing. The league has secured broadcast deals with CBS Sports Network, Vice TV, The Roku Channel, and Ion. The league is backed by high-profile investors, including Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé, musician Jason Derulo, and three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings. This investment is fueling ambitious expansion plans, with new franchises set to launch in Northern California, Washington D.C., and Minneapolis-St. Paul in 2027. The professional volleyball scene in the United States is experiencing significant growth, with MLV competing for talent and viewership with other leagues like League One Volleyball (LOVB) and Athletes Unlimited (AU Pro Volleyball). This competition signifies a new era for the sport, providing more domestic opportunities for elite players who have historically had to compete overseas.
