Samsung’s Art Basel Collections

Samsung launched 'Art Basel Collections' on the Samsung Art Store — curated digital exhibitions that pull artists from Art Basel’s shows in Hong Kong, Basel, Paris and Miami Beach. (news.samsung.com) It’s an example of how tech platforms are packaging fair content into year‑round digital showcases rather than one‑off events. ( )

A three-day art fair in Hong Kong now has a longer afterlife on living-room televisions than it did on the convention floor. Samsung’s March 24 launch put 25 works by 20 artists from Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 into its Art Store before the fair even opened on March 27. (news.samsung.com) This is not a one-off screen saver dump. Samsung has turned each Art Basel stop into a separate digital drop, with collections tied to Hong Kong, Basel, Paris, and Miami Beach through its role as Art Basel’s official art television partner. (news.samsung.com) (ushl.samsung.com) The store those works land in is already big enough to feel like a cable bundle for art. Samsung said on April 10 that the Art Store now carries more than 5,000 artworks in four-kilobyte resolution from more than 800 artists and 80-plus partners on its 2026 Art Television lineup. (news.samsung.com) Art Basel is built around scarcity and travel. Its Hong Kong 2026 fair brought together 240 galleries from 41 countries and territories, with more than half from Asia-Pacific, all inside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for March 27 through March 29. (artbasel.com) (news.samsung.com) Samsung’s pitch flips that calendar. A work like Sun Yitian’s “Ken” from 2023, shown after Art Basel Hong Kong 2026, can keep circulating inside a subscription product long after the fair booths are dismantled. (news.samsung.com) The company has been scaling the fair-to-screen formula city by city. In June 2025 it called the Basel release its largest Art Basel collection to date, with 38 works selected from more than 100 submissions by galleries showing at the Swiss fair. (news.samsung.com) That changes what a fair package is. Instead of selling only booth space, tickets, and a few hectic VIP days, Art Basel can also become a stream of licensed digital exhibitions that live on Samsung televisions year-round. (news.samsung.com 1) (news.samsung.com 2) Samsung is also using the fairs as showrooms for the hardware that carries the art. At Art Basel Hong Kong 2026, it said it would demonstrate the collection on Micro Red Green Blue, Organic Light Emitting Diode, and The Frame Pro screens at a dedicated booth. (news.samsung.com) The result is that the fair no longer ends when the crates leave town. It gets sliced into a subscription library, attached to branded televisions, and resold as a calmer, permanent version of an event that originally lasted 72 hours. (news.samsung.com) (artbasel.com)
