Salt-N-Pepa Join NAACP Hall
Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella were inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame, recognizing their pioneering influence in hip-hop and women's empowerment. Teyana Taylor was named Time Magazine's Woman of the Year 2026, joining an elite list of global changemakers. Michael B. Jordan won Entertainer of the Year at the ceremony.
Known as "The First Ladies of Rap," Salt-N-Pepa broke barriers as one of the first all-female rap groups. They were the first female rap act to achieve gold and platinum status and also among the first to win a Grammy Award. Their success in the male-dominated genre opened doors for countless female artists to follow. The trio's 1993 album, *Very Necessary*, sold over 7 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling rap album by a female act at the time. Their songs often tackled then-taboo subjects, empowering a generation of women to be outspoken. This induction places them in the esteemed company of past NAACP Hall of Fame honorees like Oprah Winfrey and Stevie Wonder. Teyana Taylor's recognition as one of Time's 2026 Women of the Year comes amidst a flourishing acting career. She recently won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "One Battle After Another" and also earned an Academy Award nomination for the same film. Taylor, who began her career as a choreographer for Beyoncé at age 15, also received a Grammy nomination for her 2025 R&B album, *Escape Room*. Michael B. Jordan's Entertainer of the Year win follows a monumental year, largely due to his dual role in the supernatural thriller "Sinners." The film, directed by Ryan Coogler, has been a massive critical and commercial success, earning a record 16 Oscar nominations. This marks Jordan's second time winning the NAACP's top honor.
