Flyers Win Third Straight

The Philadelphia Flyers clinched their third straight victory with a 3-2 shootout win over Toronto — their first shootout victory since November. Key contributors included Matvei Michkov and Noah Cates. The Flyers also picked up a shootout win to climb the standings.

The victory boosts the Flyers' late-season push for the postseason. The team currently sits sixth in the Metropolitan Division and is chasing a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Philadelphia last qualified for the playoffs in 2020, when they were eliminated in the second round by the New York Islanders. This recent success has come without leading scorer Travis Konecny, who was a game-time decision and ultimately missed the matchup against Toronto with a lower-body injury. Goaltender Dan Vladar was crucial in the win, making 29 saves against the Maple Leafs. Rookie Matvei Michkov, who scored in the shootout, has been a highly anticipated addition to the team. Selected 7th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, Michkov had a standout 2024-25 rookie campaign where he led all first-year players with 26 goals. Noah Cates, who scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period, is a fifth-year forward for the Flyers. Through 57 games this season, he has registered 11 goals and holds a plus-16 rating while playing a key role on the second line.
