AI may be tempering insurer hiring

AI automation is contributing to a stabilization of staff numbers; insurance companies are less likely to increase headcount reports Claims Journal.

A recent study indicates that 43% of insurance companies plan to maintain their current staff size, a 15-year high. This is up 10 percentage points from January 2025, according to Aon and The Jacobson Group's Q1 2026 Insurance Labor Market Study. Job openings in insurance and finance have decreased significantly since 2022. The annual average number of openings in 2025 was 281,000, but December saw just 138,000, the lowest monthly level in a decade.
