Complex project cargo still moves

- Deendayal Port in India dispatched LNG tanks bound for the Bahamas, handling a complex, long‑haul shipment. - The operation involved INOX India shipping LNG tanks through Deendayal Port to support Bahamian energy infrastructure. - The move shows specialized cargo into the Caribbean basin remains possible, though likely with longer lead times and higher cost (itln.in).

Deendayal Port in Kandla shipped liquefied natural gas tanks from India to the Bahamas this week, moving oversized cargo on a long overseas route. (itln.in) The cargo came from INOX India Ltd., which said the tanks are part of a mini-liquefied natural gas terminal project in the Bahamas. Deendayal Port Authority said the dispatch showed it could handle specialized, high-value energy equipment. (itln.in) (deendayalport.gov.in) INOX disclosed on November 11, 2024 that it had won the Bahamas contract to supply 10 liquefied natural gas storage tanks of 1,500 cubic meters each, plus a regasification system for a power plant project. The company said the full installation would have 15,000 cubic meters of storage capacity. (inoxcva.com 1) (inoxcva.com 2) Liquefied natural gas is natural gas chilled into a liquid so it can be stored in insulated tanks and shipped more easily than by pipeline. A regasification system turns that liquid back into gas at the destination so it can be burned in power equipment. (inoxcva.com) The tanks in this project are cryogenic vessels, meaning they are built to hold fuel at extremely low temperatures. INOX said the Bahamas order would use the largest shop-built double-walled vacuum-insulated liquefied natural gas tanks the company had made. (inoxcva.com 1) (inoxcva.com 2) The Bahamas work has expanded since the original award. INOX said in a later quarterly update that it also received an order for liquefied natural gas regasification systems for power generation on Abaco and Eleuthera, two smaller Bahamian islands, tied to the main project. (inoxcva.com) For Deendayal Port, the shipment adds to a push to present Kandla as a gateway for complex export-import cargo, not only bulk commodities. The port said last month it was preparing to receive 22 vessels in 72 hours, and India’s ports ministry approved a ₹132.51 crore road overbridge project at the port on April 6, 2026 to ease cargo congestion. (itln.in 1) (itln.in 2) For INOX, the Bahamas contract has become a recurring reference point in its liquefied natural gas business. The company called it its biggest-ever order for that division and said the latest dispatch marked another construction step rather than the end of the project. (inoxcva.com) (itln.in)
