Token holders have voted on everything from the design of the team bus to the goal celebration song played in the stadium. This level of participation aims to transform passive supporters into active community members. The Socios.com app includes a geo-location based augmented reality feature called "Token Hunt," allowing fans to find free Fan Tokens and $CHZ (the platform's currency) in their vicinity. This feature extends to specific locations, including stadiums on match days, creating a direct link between the digital token and the physical fan experience. In a recent collaboration, the KOP Stadium app integrated Socios.com to allow Fan Token holders to find and book tables at partner bars in Madrid to watch matches, receiving a free drink upon registration. The financial implications for clubs are significant, with Fan Tokens creating a new revenue stream. Since 2018, Fan Token Offerings have generated over $437 million in revenue for sports clubs via the Socios platform. In a strategic move announced in February 2025, Chiliz committed to using 10% of all fan token sales revenue for a systematic buyback and burn of their native token, $CHZ, aiming to increase scarcity and long-term value. However, the value of individual Fan Tokens can be volatile and is often influenced by team performance. For instance, the price of Paris Saint-Germain's $PSG token has seen significant fluctuations around Champions League matches, often following a "buy the rumor, sell the news" pattern where the price drops after a victory. Looking ahead, Chiliz is expanding its ecosystem beyond simple fan voting. In May 2024, Atlético de Madrid integrated the Fan Token experience directly into their official club app. Chiliz has also announced a strategic partnership with Fanzword, a leading football gaming platform in the Middle East, to integrate Fan Tokens into its ecosystem. Chiliz is also making a renewed push into the U.S. market, with plans to launch a U.S. fan token in the coming months. This expansion is part of a broader "Chiliz Vision 2030" to build a full financial infrastructure layer for the global sports industry. The competitive landscape for blockchain-based fan engagement is growing, with other platforms like Liquiditeam and Sorare also partnering with major sports entities. However, Chiliz continues to be a dominant player with over 150 partners across various sports globally. The company also received authorization as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider under the EU's MiCA regulation in September 2025, a first for the blockchain and sports sector.
