Hunter x Hunter Roguelike Hits #1 in Japan

Hunter x Hunter's new free roguelike game "Nen x Survivor" debuted at number one among free iPhone games in Japan. The game's instant success indicates strong fan engagement and renewed interest in the beloved anime series. This roguelike approach brings the Hunter x Hunter universe to mobile gaming with what appears to be compelling gameplay mechanics.

The game's global launch was on February 17, 2026, released by publisher Bushiroad and developer WonderPlanet. It is a free-to-play "survivor" style roguelite, a genre popularized by games like *Vampire Survivors*, where players fight off escalating waves of enemies. A special animated video was also confirmed to be released in connection with the game. This release is part of a larger, recent push for the *Hunter x Hunter* franchise in the gaming space. It follows the 3v3 fighting game *Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact*, which was developed by Eighting and released in July 2025 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The success of "Nen x Survivor" is notable given the franchise's mixed history with mobile games. Previous titles like the card battle game *Hunter x Hunter: Arena Battle* and the 3D action RPG *Greed Adventure* were shut down after a few years of service. Another title, *Battle Collection*, ended its service after a decade. The renewed fan engagement comes as the manga's creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, has become more active in early 2026. Togashi has been providing regular updates on the progress of new chapters via social media, signaling a potential end to the manga's most recent hiatus, which began in December 2024. This has generated significant excitement for the continuation of the Succession Contest arc.
