ZaiNar Unveils GPS-Free 5G Location Technology
ZaiNar announced a new technology that provides highly accurate location services over 5G networks without requiring GPS, satellites, or device software. The company positions the capability as turning 5G networks into "Physical AI infrastructure," giving carriers and enterprises direct control over 5G positioning.
ZaiNar has emerged from nine years in stealth mode, announcing it has raised over $100 million at a valuation exceeding $1 billion. The company, founded in 2017, has been developing its technology outside of the public eye, accumulating over 100 filed patents with 90 already issued. The core of ZaiNar's technology is achieving sub-nanosecond time synchronization across existing wireless networks. Because radio waves travel at a known speed (approximately 30 centimeters per nanosecond), this precise timing allows for sub-meter location accuracy without needing new hardware. This approach works indoors, underground, and in dense urban areas where traditional GPS signals fail. The company is backed by a notable list of tech investors, including Steve Jurvetson of SpaceX's board, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, Siri co-founder Tom Gruber, and Skype founding engineer Jaan Tallinn. ZaiNar reports it has already secured over $450 million in contracts and memoranda of understanding. ZaiNar's system is already commercially deployed in several sectors. In healthcare, it's used to track medical devices, while in construction, it helps monitor worker locations for safety in hazardous zones. The technology also enables coordinated movements for autonomous operations in industrial settings. CEO and co-founder Daniel Jacker positions the technology as a foundational layer for "Physical AI," providing the real-time, comprehensive location data that intelligent machines need to operate in the physical world. The system is designed to be protocol-agnostic, working across 5G, Wi-Fi, and private cellular networks.
