Residents of Avon, Farmington, Canton, Granby, Simsbury and Suffield can bring household hazardous waste to Farmington High School on Saturday, April 25. (farmington-ct.org) The collection runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 10 Monteith Drive in Farmington, and it is open only to residents of the six participating towns. (farmington-ct.org) (granby-ct.gov) Officials say residents must bring proof of residency, stay in their vehicles and follow attendants’ directions through the drop-off line. (avonct.gov) (granby-ct.gov) The program is for materials that cannot go in regular trash, including pesticides, paints, cleaning chemicals, antifreeze, batteries and fluorescent bulbs. (avonct.gov) (farmington-ct.org) The same event also accepts electronics for recycling and up to two copy-paper-sized boxes of personal documents for shredding. (farmington-ct.org) (avonct.gov) Town notices say the collections are limited to reasonable household volumes and do not accept commercially generated waste. (avonct.gov) (townofcantonct.org) Some items will be turned away, including ammunition, asbestos, propane tanks, medicines, tires and appliances, according to town guidance. (farmington-ct.org) (townofcantonct.org) Avon urged residents with paint only to use PaintCare drop-off sites instead, saying lines at household hazardous waste days can be long. Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also directs residents with leftover paint to PaintCare. (avonct.gov) (portal.ct.gov) The regional schedule continues June 13 and October 10 at the Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road. (farmington-ct.org) (granby-ct.gov) Canton said the 2026 schedule also reflects a local change: its residents are no longer participating in Metropolitan District Commission hazardous waste collections.
