Project Liberty Institute to Address India AI Summit

The Project Liberty Institute (PLI) will headline four sessions at the upcoming India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. PLI President Tomicah Tillemann is slated to advocate for improved digital governance, individual user sovereignty, and a "pro-human" AI technology stack.

- Project Liberty is stewarding the open-source Decentralized Social Networking Protocol (DSNP), which is designed to serve as a public utility for a universal social graph. This protocol separates the social network from any single application or platform, allowing users to own and control their data. - The DSNP is built on blockchain technology to decentralize data storage across a wide network of computers, preventing any single entity from owning the public's data. It enables users to move their data between different applications without rebuilding their social connections each time. - Tomicah Tillemann, the President of Project Liberty Institute, previously served as a venture capitalist at Andreessen Horowitz and as a senior advisor to two U.S. Secretaries of State. He also holds four patents and has been involved in initiatives to use open-source and decentralized technology to address public corruption and increase government efficiency. - The India AI Impact Summit is a global event hosted by the Government of India, aiming to bring together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to shape the future of AI. The summit will focus on inclusive and impactful AI, with discussions structured around themes of People, Planet, and Progress. - Project Liberty's initiative was founded by real estate billionaire Frank McCourt, who has committed significant funding to establish the McCourt Institute and the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University to develop ethical frameworks for content moderation and governance. - The social media platform MeWe, with 20 million members, has announced plans to integrate DSNP into its architecture, which would make it the largest decentralized social media platform. - Project Liberty collaborates with several academic institutions, including Stanford University, Georgetown University, MIT, and Harvard, to research and develop new models of digital governance and data stewardship. - The India AI Impact Summit will feature the "AI for All: Global Impact Challenge" to identify and showcase AI solutions that can have a large-scale impact, with a focus on gender equity and innovation from the Global South.
