Perplexity Launches AI Workflow Engine
AI startup Perplexity has launched "Perplexity Computer," a multi-model AI system designed to create and execute entire digital workflows. The platform moves beyond simple chatbots to automate complex, multi-step tasks. This represents a new front in the AI race, focusing on process orchestration and enterprise automation.
Launched on February 25, 2026, Perplexity Computer is designed to act as a general-purpose "digital worker" by coordinating multiple specialized AI models. The system breaks down user requests into smaller tasks and assigns them to the most suitable AI, such as using Gemini for deep research, Grok for quick tasks, and Anthropic's Opus 4.6 as the core reasoning engine. In total, the platform can orchestrate 19 different AI models to execute complex, long-running workflows. Each task assigned by Perplexity Computer runs in a secure, isolated cloud environment that has access to a browser, filesystem, and other tool integrations. This allows the system to perform a wide range of actions, from web research and coding to data analysis and integrating with applications like Gmail and Slack. The platform is designed to handle workflows that can run for hours or even months without constant user input. The service is available exclusively to Perplexity's Max subscribers at a cost of $200 per month. This subscription includes 10,000 credits for using the Computer, with a one-time bonus of 20,000 credits for early users. Users have the ability to manage costs by selecting specific AI models for subtasks and setting spending limits for their projects. Perplexity AI was founded in August 2022 by Aravind Srinivas, Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho, and Andy Konwinski, who have backgrounds at major AI labs and tech companies. The company's CEO, Aravind Srinivas, previously held research positions at OpenAI, Google Brain, and DeepMind. The San Francisco-based startup has seen a rapid increase in its valuation. After multiple funding rounds, Perplexity AI's valuation reached a reported $14 billion by June 2025. The company counts notable investors such as Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, and Databricks among its backers.
