AllTrails Partners With Western National Parks

Outdoor exploration app AllTrails has become the official partner of Western National Parks (WNP), a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service. As part of the agreement, AllTrails will sponsor the hiking and outdoor exploration pages on WNP's website. The collaboration aims to connect the app's user base with educational content about national parks.

- A previous promotional collaboration between the two organizations in the fall of 2023 resulted in a 244% increase in signups for WNPA's "Park Protector" membership program and a 25% year-over-year increase in gift shop sales during the two-week campaign. - The partnership operates under AllTrails' Public Lands Program, a free service for land managers that allows them to communicate real-time trail conditions and alerts to the app's users, as well as view trail-use insights to better inform maintenance and planning. - Western National Parks Association, a nonprofit, provided over $14 million in direct and indirect aid to its partner parks in fiscal year 2024 and has given over $162 million since its founding in 1938. - The collaboration will expose WNPA's educational content to AllTrails' community of over 90 million users, highlighting cultural and historical narratives of the trails. - Similar partnerships through the AllTrails Public Lands Program have yielded measurable safety improvements; for example, Olympic National Park saw a 66% decrease in search and rescue incidents after partnering with AllTrails to update routes and alerts. - The Western National Parks Association is a nonprofit education partner to the National Park Service, supporting more than 70 park sites across 12 Western states. - AllTrails' platform includes over 450,000 curated trail maps and operates on a freemium model, with premium tiers offering advanced features like offline maps, wrong-turn alerts, and new predictive weather conditions. - The partnership is part of a larger trend of tech companies collaborating with park services; other examples include Google offering Street View for parks and the U.S. Department of Energy partnering with the National Park Service on clean transportation projects.
