LA Investor Summit Spotlights Local Startups

Angeles Investors just hosted its Q1 summit, showcasing pitches from a new crop of LA-area startups in AI, fintech, and infrastructure. The event highlights a key local opportunity for USC students to connect with active early-stage investors and founders.

Angeles Investors is a seed-stage angel group with a portfolio of 17 firms, focusing on startups in the United States. The group's mission is to find, fund, and fuel ventures led by Latino entrepreneurs. Their recent investments include a $12M Series A in Scowtt and a round in CodeGPT. The summit featured pitches from startups like Lumetec, an infrastructure company that turns subsea fiber optic networks into real-time monitoring sensors for critical maritime infrastructure. The company has raised approximately $3.3 million in seed funding. Another presenter was Nibbles, a fintech company offering a credit card with built-in pet insurance that automates the claims process. Also pitching was Blinka, an AI-powered platform for commercial real estate financing that automates document analysis to create loan packages and match deals with lenders. The company, founded in 2024, raised $20,000 in a pre-seed round in April 2025. The Los Angeles area has solidified its position as the third-largest startup ecosystem in the United States, with approximately 3,800 venture-backed companies. In 2025, LA-based startups in the fintech sector raised $1.4 billion across more than 85 deals, while AI companies secured $2.1 billion. The region is home to over 500 venture capital firms, including prominent names like Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, and Greycroft. These firms are actively funding local startups, with fintech seed rounds in LA averaging $3.2 million in 2025. For USC students, the university's Marshall School of Business offers direct exposure to the local venture ecosystem through the USC Marshall Venture Fund. This evergreen fund invests in early-stage startups founded by USC students, alumni, faculty, and staff, aiming to bridge the early-stage funding gap. The fund's investment committee includes partners from top LA venture firms such as Upfront Ventures, Index Ventures, and TenOneTen Ventures, providing students with direct connections to key players in the city's investment landscape. This initiative not only offers practical venture capital experience but also actively supports the growth of USC-affiliated companies within the Southern California economy.
