Google is pushing Gemini deeper into Workspace, turning Docs, Drive, and Meet into one connected assistant inside everyday office apps. (workspace.google.com) The biggest new additions landed on April 22: Ask Gemini in Drive moved from beta to general availability, and Google showed an in-person version of Meet’s “Take notes for me” that can start from the Meet mobile app or website. (workspaceupdates.googleblog.com) (9to5google.com) In Drive, Google says Gemini now opens a dedicated workspace where users can review files, ask questions across documents, and work without leaving Drive. Google said the feature started rolling out April 22 to eligible Google Workspace and Google AI plans. (workspaceupdates.googleblog.com) In Meet, the in-person note-taking tool expands a feature Google already says was used by more than 110 million attendees in the last month, with 8.5 times year-over-year growth. The new version generates transcripts, summaries, and action items in Google Docs from a live room meeting. (9to5google.com) Google is also widening access in Docs. In a Workspace Updates post published April 22, the company said customers will get temporary higher limits for “Match writing style” and “Match document format” through June 1, 2026. (workspaceupdates.googleblog.com) Those Docs tools are designed to make Gemini mimic an existing document’s tone and layout, so a draft can look and read like prior work instead of a generic template. Google said standard per-user limits will apply after June 1 and that updated limits will be posted in the Help Center before they take effect. (workspaceupdates.googleblog.com) The broader pitch is that Gemini should follow a user across apps instead of acting like a separate chatbot. Google’s new “Workspace Intelligence” system is described as a layer that understands relationships across Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, Docs, Slides, and Sheets in real time. (workspace.google.com) (techcrunch.com) That cross-app model depends on access to company data, and Google is pairing the rollout with admin controls. Google’s admin documentation says Workspace Intelligence can use Workspace data such as emails, documents, and calendar events, and admins can limit access to particular data sources. (knowledge.workspace.google.com) (techcrunch.com) Google has been building toward this for nearly two years. In June 2024, it made Gemini generally available in the side panel for Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, with the promise that users could summarize and generate content without switching tabs. (workspaceupdates.googleblog.com) The April 2026 rollout moves that idea closer to Google’s office-software strategy: one assistant that can draft a document, search a project folder, and capture a meeting, while companies decide how much internal data it can see.
