Social job listings and equity-only roles

Recent social posts flagged entry-level software roles and remote junior openings such as a SafelyYou fresher role paying $20/hour and a Modulr listing used as a comp benchmark. (x.com) The posts also highlighted an equity-only opening for a digital growth lead, underscoring that some startups are offering stock instead of salary. (x.com) (x.com)

Social posts about junior tech jobs are zeroing in on two ends of the same market: low hourly coding roles and startup jobs that offer only equity. (x.com) One post highlighted a SafelyYou software role framed as a fresher opening at $20 an hour, while another used a Modulr listing as a pay benchmark for remote junior work. SafelyYou’s current public jobs page shows remote software openings in the United States and Canada, including a Software Developer role in Fleet research and development. (x.com) (careers.safely-you.com) A separate post pointed to an equity-only opening for a digital growth lead, a setup in which compensation comes in stock or options instead of cash salary. Startup job boards routinely advertise roles with salary-and-equity mixes, but pure equity listings still surface in very early-stage hiring. (x.com 1) (x.com 2) (wellfound.com) The pay gap is easy to quantify. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says software developers had median annual pay of $133,080 in May 2024, and the National Association of Colleges and Employers projected a $76,251 average starting salary for computer science graduates in the Class of 2025. (bls.gov) (international.binus.ac.id) At $20 an hour, a full-time role works out to about $41,600 a year before overtime, well below those national software benchmarks. That rate is still above the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, but pay floors in many states were raised again on January 1, 2026. (fred.stlouisfed.org) (dol.gov) Remote job boards show why these posts travel fast. Indeed listed hundreds of remote entry-level software openings in April 2026, and GitHub’s Simplify/Coder Quad board says it is tracking 2026 new-grad roles with daily updates. (indeed.com) (github.com) Salary transparency has also become part of the pitch. Wellfound says candidates can view salary and equity upfront on startup listings, and remote-job platforms now sort openings by pay bands, hourly rates, and equity. (wellfound.com) (remoteok.com) (startup.jobs) Equity-only offers sit in a different category from low-paid salaried work because the cash value can be zero unless the company grows or exits. That leaves candidates weighing immediate rent money against a stake that may never become liquid. (wellfound.com) (ziprecruiter.com) The result is a junior market where one listing can advertise $20 an hour for software work and another can advertise no salary at all. The posts landed because they turned that spread into a screenshot people could compare in seconds. (x.com 1) (x.com 2)
