Cultivar, a New Farm-to-Table Restaurant, Opens in Sausalito
Napa siblings Jody Harris and Gingy Harris Gable have opened Cultivar Sausalito, a new farm-to-table restaurant. The establishment is their largest business venture to date and focuses on serving fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
- This is the third restaurant and tasting room for the Harris siblings, who also operate Cultivar locations in San Francisco's Ghirardelli Square and Marina neighborhoods. - The family's roots in Napa Valley agriculture date back to 1958 when their grandparents purchased an estate in Rutherford. This property, Caspar Estate, now includes an organic vineyard, a grove of heritage Mission olive trees, beehives, and culinary gardens that supply the restaurants. - The restaurant is located at 690 Bridgeway in a historic 1915 building that also houses the Hotel Sausalito; the space was completely renovated to feature steel and brass accents and an oversized olive tree at the entrance. - The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Matthew Curry, formerly of Waterbar and Sam's Anchor Café, with Justin Bruckert as Chef de Cuisine and Candace Rowan as Pastry Chef. - A central feature of the kitchen is a Valoriani wood-fired oven, crafted in Tuscany, which is used for artisanal pizzas and hearth-roasted dishes like game hen and branzino. - In addition to their own Cultivar and Caspar Estate wines, which have won gold medals at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the restaurant offers a full cocktail and non-alcoholic drink menu. - The menu features dishes such as Duck Poutine with brandy gravy, Pork Belly Tacos, and house-made pastas, with desserts including a Gianduja Torte and an Olive Oil Cake with honey parfait. - The siblings' journey into the restaurant business began after they started producing wine commercially from their family's organically farmed vineyard in 2008.
