African Cybersecurity Startup Raises $3M Seed

Cybervergent, an African digital trust and security platform, has raised a $3 million seed round led by Ventures Platform and Atlantica Ventures. The startup, recognized as a WEF Tech Pioneer, serves over 150 organizations across multiple continents.

Founded in 2012 as Infoprive, the company bootstrapped for over a decade, deliberately building a profitable foundation by funding operations entirely from retainer and subscription revenue before taking on venture capital. Co-founder and CEO Adetokunbo Omotosho, a former cybersecurity lead at Nigerian fintech giant Interswitch, transitioned the 60-person company from a consulting focus to a scalable AI-driven software platform, rebranding to Cybervergent in October 2023. The company’s AI-native platform provides continuous monitoring of security and regulatory compliance, a shift from the traditional, periodic manual audits. This is critical for firms in highly regulated sectors like banking and insurance, where breaches between infrequent checks can go unnoticed. Cybervergent reports that its automation can accelerate compliance, risk, and audit initiatives by up to 70%. Cybervergent's platform offers a suite of services including Compliance Posture Management (CPM), Data Security Posture Management (DSPM), and Risk Posture Management (RPM). It cross-maps over 4,500 regulatory and security controls across various frameworks, providing a unified view to eliminate siloed efforts. Their offerings also include red teaming and digital forensics. The funding round was co-led by two Nigerian-owned, emerging market-focused venture firms. Ventures Platform’s thesis centers on backing startups that solve for "non-consumption" and plug infrastructural gaps in Africa. Atlantica Ventures, which counts Paystack (acquired by Stripe) in its portfolio, focuses on tech and tech-enabled businesses in key African markets, with a focus on sectors like fintech and digital security. The World Economic Forum's Technology Pioneer designation is awarded to early-stage companies with innovative technologies poised for a significant positive impact on business and society. As a 2025 Tech Pioneer, Cybervergent joins an alumni network that includes Google, Twitter, and Airbnb, and will engage with global leaders on the world's most pressing issues for two years.
